One year after opening its doors within the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania, the Berks LaunchBox has already seen how innovation can spark economic development and generate momentum in the Greater Reading community.

Penn State Berks honored one high school student, three college students, and a faculty and staff member during this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. awards banquet on Jan. 20.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20, Penn State Berks students will volunteer in the local community and complete community service activities on campus in an effort to honor the life and legacy of the civil rights leader.

Berks Benefiting THON, a Penn State Berks student organization, will host a benefit dinner and a night of fun—all for a good cause. The third annual "Inspire the Night" benefit dinner will be held from from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17.

Penn State Berks will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by hosting a banquet on Monday, Jan. 20. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room.

Jeff Griffin, author of "I’Mpossible: Desire, Dream, Do," will share his inspiring story of overcoming adversity with the Penn State Berks community at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium.

Through the series of courses listed below, participants will be able to brainstorm, design, develop and test an idea for a new startup, or a new direction to improve an existing business, by identifying your assets and considering the opportunities around you.

"Engaging Perceptions: A Collaboration of Scholars and Artists" explores the relationship between academia and the arts. This upcoming exhibition in Freyberger Gallery will kick off with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16.

The innovators of tomorrow will practice imaginative thinking and teamwork at the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, set to run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. This is the fourth consecutive year that the event will be held at Penn State Berks.
