Students volunteer in the community

Penn State Berks students will be "lending their paws for a good cause" as they volunteer at a variety of nonprofit organizations during the academic year. The following is a list of community service initiatives in September. Career Services Provides Transportation to University Park Career Fairs

The Penn State Berks Office of Career Services will provide transportation to two Career Services events at University Park campus in September: the IST Pro Expo Career Fair on Monday, September 15, 2014, and the University Park Fall Career Fair on September 16 and 18. Transportation will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Olympian Kayla Harrison discusses overcoming sexual abuse

Kayla Harrison was the first American to win gold in a Judo event. But behind her competitive success was an unimaginable personal struggle. At the age of 16, Harrison revealed that she had been sexually abused by her coach. Harrison discusses how she overcame her painful past and transformed her life on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium. Freyberger Gallery presents "Art of Light"

The Penn State Berks Freyberger Gallery will present the exhibition Art of Light by Lyn Godley from September 4-October 16, 2014. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, September 4, at 6 p.m. Godley will also present a lecture on art, light, and its ability to help heal on Tuesday, September 16, at 7 p.m., in the Perkins Student Center Auditorium, located across from the Freyberger Gallery. Both events are free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served at the opening reception.

Brother brings unique sound to campus Sept. 3

Fusing signature vocals and guitar with the deep pulse of the didgeridoo, the soaring highs of the bagpipes, and tribal percussion, Brother will bring their unique sound to Penn State Berks on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is free and open to the public.

Asian perspective on skills development topic of EBC Speaker Series

The next Engineering, Business, and Computing (EBC) Division Speaker Series Presentation will feature Dr. Sungsup Ra, Director of the Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Development, Asian Development Bank (ADB), who will present "Opportunities and Challenges for Skills Development: Asian Perspective" on Friday, August 29, 2014, at 1 p.m. in room 121 Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This presentation is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

First-year students move into residence halls on August 22

Penn State Berks will welcome nearly 400 first-year members to its residential community as part of the campus' annual orientation program on Friday, August 22, 2014. Students will move into the residence halls from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be a welcome reception for students and their families at the Perkins Plaza from 2:30-4:00 p.m., which will be open to students, faculty, and staff of the college.

$1 million gift funds scholarships at Penn State Berks

A $1 million scholarship endowment to benefit Penn State Berks students has been made possible by a recent gift from the John E. Morgan Foundation. The gift will create The John E. Morgan Foundation Trustee Scholarship, which will help qualified students with financial need to attend Penn State Berks.
